Who is Laura Riesco, the author of Ximena de dos caminos Laura Riesco was born in La Oroya, Peru, in 1940. She studied modern languages at Wayne State University and literature at the University of Kentucky. She taught Spanish-American literature at the University of Maine at Orono from 1969 until her retirement in 2005. She died in 2008 in Ogunquit, Maine.
Laura Riesco published her first novel, El truco de los ojos, in 1978. It was an experimental work that explored the themes of perception and reality. Her second novel, Ximena de dos caminos, was published in 1994 and won several awards, including the Latino Literature Prize of the New York Latin American Writers' Institute. It was translated into English by Mary G. Berg as Ximena at the Crossroads in 1998.
Laura Riesco began writing Ximena de dos caminos without thinking of publishing; she wanted to rescue her \"imagined memories\" and her \"mother tongue,\" which was Spanish. She wrote the novel in English and then translated it into Spanish herself. She said that writing in English gave her more freedom and distance, while writing in Spanish gave her more emotion and intimacy.
Ximena de dos caminos is not only a novel about a girl's growth and discovery; it is also a novel about a writer's creation and expression. It is a novel that invites us to reflect on our own memories, stories, and identities. aa16f39245
