Soccer Mom (2008)

A warm-hearted comedy about a compulsive soccer mom who masquerades as a famous Italian soccer star hired to coach her daughter's floundering soccer team, the Mar Vista Galaxy, then struggles frantically to keep her wacky charade going long enough to see the girls win their big tournament.
Becca's (Emily Osment) soccer team is in really bad shape. Their coach would rather text message than give pep talks after the game. When he announces that he is leaving in the middle of the season, the team is thrilled to hear that his replacement will be the Italian soccer phenomenon, Lorenzo Vincenzo (a funny Dan Cortese). Upon picking up the soccer star to bring him to the team's introduction party, Wendy (Missi Pyle) gets a shock. She has to think quickly to save the team's morale -- and their season -- by using a little sleight of hand, and sleight of tongue.
Wendy Hanler (Missi Pyle) is a hard working soccer mom of three kids. Her daughter Becca (Emily Osment) is on the losing Galaxy. She's frustrated and angry after the death of the father/couch. She wants to quit. Couch Kenny is an inept idiot who is moving to Milan. He tells them that famous Italian soccer player Lorenzo Vincenzo (Dan Cortese) is retiring from injury and wants to help couch them. It turns out that Lorenzo was just saying Si to get rid of Kenny. So Wendy decides to do a Mrs Doubtfire and pretends to be Lorenzo. The writing is a little clunky and wants to be funnier than it actually is. Missi Pyle as Lorenzo isn't that funny and very freaky looking. The basic story of the complicated mother daughter relationship is touching. The TV movie production looks to be on the cheaper side. It's a marginal TV movie. It's a family story dependent mostly on the performances of Missi Pyle and Emily Osment, and they do a commendable job.
The boys wrapped up their forth soccer season today! We have been fortunate enough to have the same wonderful + energetic coach for 3 out of 4 seasons and have had a lot of boys return to the same team. It is truly a pleasure to watch the boys have so much fun on the field. We have definitely been bitten by the soccer bug!
I have been a team parent for years, from soccer to cheerleading to wrestling and I would like to show you something that might help your soccer team with organizing healthy snacks, volunteers, fundraising events and parties.
A soccer mom is very committed to her daughter's soccer talent. To improve her, she disguises herself as an Italian soccer star who coaches her team. However, she struggles to keep up appearances for long.
They break ground on a new home; Mia is in horse riding lessons, and Anna is a well-respected businesswoman/soccer mom. Then the stock market crash of 2008 happens, causing Anna to have to get back into the sexwork business.
In this comedy, a suburban mother will do anything to win her daughter's love. So when an Italian soccer star refuses to coach the girl's struggling soccer team, the mom masquerades as the expert coach in order to save the day. Hilarious misadventures ensue, and heart-warming lessons are learned by all.
The Berhalter and Reyna families have, or had, been extremely close for decades. Gio's father, Claudio, a national-team legend, played high school, club and international soccer with Berhalter. Gio's mother, Danielle, was a college soccer teammate of Rosalind's. These two royal American soccer families were basically intertwined, and now they're terribly split.
One other thing: She was political fiction. Serious campaign-data experts now dismiss the soccer mom as nothing more than a useful shorthand; it sounded great to talk about her on TV talk shows, but the category covered far too many voters to be relevant to anyone seeking to understand how America actually votes. Were campaigns really going to make their pitch at soccer matches in suburbs all across the United States

Coyne's trial was scheduled for today but at the eleventh hour the court announced it would be dropping the charges. Perhaps the threat of angry soccer moms and dads storming the suburban courthouse was enough to make them rethink the notion of prosecuting a case against a middle-class mother whose children spend their leisure time collecting coins for the poor. Of course, I couldn't help wondering how the story might have played out had the mother been African-American, say, and poor. Would the legions of warrior parents have come to her rescue
There are also plenty of soccer dads and NASCAR moms who made the pilgrimage from one party to the other. But the gender gap that has characterized American politics for most of the modern era intensifies when voting decisions are made on social and cultural issues rather than economic matters. As a result, the growing difference in the way working-class men and college-educated women prioritize their political thinking has been the driving force behind the increased polarization of the electorate.
Notwithstanding these objections, there's no question that superdelegate has become a household word this election season. It will be interesting to see whether the American Dialect Society anoints superdelegate as its Word of the Year. (Full disclosure: I serve on the ADS Executive Council and I'm active in the Word of the Year voting.) In past presidential election years, the ADS has selected such politically charged terms as soccer mom in 1996, chad in 2000, and red/blue/purple state in 2004. Will superdelegate prevail in 2008 Or will the next five months of campaigning between Obama and McCain spawn an even more prominent addition to our lexicon
Nov. 12, 2008SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Before taking the field for their final regular-season games of their Santa Clara careers, the men's soccer team's graduating seniors checked in with SantaClaraBroncos.com to share their fondest memories as a Bronco and notes of thanks.Playing soccer at Santa Clara has been such an honor as well as one of the greatest experiences of my life. The enjoyment of 30 individuals coming together for one goal and succeeding has been something that will always leave an impact on my life, whatever my future entails. I will never forget our Sweet 16 penalty kick victory at Indiana. Freezing temperature, a packed stadium and a thrilling finish is why I love this game. That sophomore playoff experience culminating in our Elite 8 appearance was unquestionably the greatest on field achievement of my Santa Clara career. But, whether we were grinding it out, running BB's or having the time of our lives in Japan for Spring Break, my teammates were always by my side. Thank you all and I will miss you. Mom and dad, you have always been in my corner and without you, none of this would be possible. To everyone behind me, enjoy it while it lasts, we are truly blessed.-Brian Martin #17----#8 Jide Ogunbiyi
Over the years I have experienced great times with my teammates that I will always keep with me. Traveling with the team, to different states and abroad, was always fun for me. I will miss game days and our team celebrating after a goal or a win. I will also miss working towards a common goal with my teammates. Soccer has been one of the biggest commitments of my life. The times I have felt the most proud, excited, disappointed along with many more emotions has come from soccer and the passion I have for it. At Santa Clara I have formed a true brotherhood with all of my teammates. The memories and friendships will always stay with me and for that I am grateful. I would like to thank the coaching staff at Santa Clara for the opportunity they have given me. To my family and friends, and those who have coached me in the past thank you for all you have done. To say the least, it has been an amazing experience.-Aaron Clubb #6 FacebookTwitterEmailPrintAddthis June 24, 2009 96 Santa Clara University Student-Athletes Make Commissioner's Honor Roll Lists May 19, 2009 Bronco Men's Soccer Signs Jacob Rose to National Letter of Intent February 6, 2009 Santa Clara Men's Soccer Signs Three to National Letters of Intent February 6, 2009 Feb. 6 Game Notes January 23, 2009 15 Broncos Earn WCC All-Academic Honors January 15, 2009 Ogunbiyi Selected In MLS SuperDraft January 6, 2009 2008 Season In Review December 22, 2008 Three Named to NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-West Team December 17, 2008 Santa Clara's Ogunbiyi Invited To adidas MLS Player Combine December 11, 2008 Ogunbiyi Named To NSCAA All-Far West Team November 19, 2008 Six Broncos Receive All-WCC Honors November 16, 2008 Broncos Close 2008 Season Tied With Toreros November 14, 2008 SCU Men's Soccer Shutout 3-0 At LMU November 12, 2008 Men's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season In SoCal November 12, 2008 Men's Soccer Seniors Final Thoughts November 7, 2008 Broncos Draw 2-2 in Double Overtime Versus SMC November 5, 2008 Men's Soccer Hosts SMC In Senior Day Action November 3, 2008 Santa Clara Hosts Goals For A Cure November 2, 2008 Broncos Edge Pilots 3-2 October 31, 2008 Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 To Gonzaga October 30, 2008 Bosio, Martin Earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors October 29, 2008 Men's Soccer Hosts Gonzaga And Portland October 28, 2008 Bronco Soccer To Host Christmas Camp October 26, 2008 Men's Soccer Falls 3-1 To USF October 25, 2008 Broncos Draw 0-0 in Double Overtime Versus USF October 22, 2008 SCU Men's Soccer Battles USF This Week October 20, 2008 Cosgriff Earns WCC Player of the Week Honors October 19, 2008 Broncos Down Toreros 1-0 October 18, 2008 Bronco Men's Soccer Ties LMU 2-2 October 17, 2008 Fast Break With Soccer's Brian Martin October 15, 2008 SCU Men's Soccer Hosts LMU And San Diego October 12, 2008 Men's Soccer Battles Saint Mary's To 1-1 Tie October 10, 2008 SCU Men's Soccer Battles Saint Mary's On Sunday October 5, 2008 Broncos Edged 2-1 By Zags In Overtime October 3, 2008 Broncos Fall 4-1 To Pilots October 1, 2008 Men's Soccer Opens WCC Play On The Road September 29, 2008 Mitchell Named WCC Soccer Player of the Week September 27, 2008 Broncos Rally To 1-0 Overtime Victory September 24, 2008 Men's Soccer Takes SJSU To 1-1 Tie September 24, 2008 Postgame Quotes: Santa Clara 1, San Jose State 1 September 23, 2008 Men's Soccer Closes Out Non-Conference Play This Week September 20, 2008 Broncos Blanked By Bruins, 2-0 September 17, 2008 Men's Soccer Travels To UCLA Saturday September 12, 2008 Postgame Quotes: Santa Clara 1, No. 4 Cal 1 September 12, 2008 SCU Battles No. 4 Cal To A 1-1 Tie September 10, 2008 Broncos Host No. 4 Cal This Friday September 10, 2008 WCCSports: The Champion Within September 7, 2008 Bates' Header Gives Broncos 2-1 Victory September 5, 2008 Men's Soccer Edged 1-0 By Wisconsin In OT September 4, 2008 No. 12 Broncos Battle Two In Wisconsin September 1, 2008 Broncos Fall 4-3 To Flames August 30, 2008 Loyola Edges No. 5 Santa Clara, 2-1 August 27, 2008 Anibaba Named Soccer America Preseason All-American August 27, 2008 No. 1 Men's Soccer Opens 2008 In Chicago August 20, 2008 McCarthy, Bosio Named To Hermann Trophy Watch List August 14, 2008 Looking for third straight WCC title, Men's Soccer Preseason Favorite 2008 WCC poll July 22, 2008 Santa Clara Announces 2008 Men's Soccer Schedule July 21, 2008 Jide Ogunbiyi On Cusp Of Olympics googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('gpt-ad-adhesion'); }); (function($) { $(window).on('endscroll', function() { if ($(window).scrollTop() >= ($(window).height() / 3)) { $('.gpt-adhesion-placeholder').addClass('collapse'); $('.sticky-bar').addClass('expand'); } else { $('.gpt-adhesion-placeholder').removeClass('collapse'); $('.sticky-bar').removeClass('expand'); } });})(jQuery); 2021 Santa Clara University Athletics.
